December has settled cold and wet. I recall warm, sunny days at the Christmas Tree Farm. Warm and sunny are not associated with the holiday season, but I feel a shift in weather over the last twenty years. As a teenager, I spent holiday weekends on the tree farm. While I remember white, winter, I also recall sun, heat and t-shirts. Recently I've been disappointed in December because it has not lived up to legend and childhood memory. But, refreshing as a cold drink after a long run, winter arrived the day after Thanksgiving.

For some time now, I have been interested in the idea of beginning a blog. Through high school and college, I was a writer. People knew me as a writer and, to this day, friends from that period ask me if I write. The truth is I have not dedicated any time to my writing over the last several years. I have spent the last four years preparing to be a teacher. I am fortunate to have obtained a nice job teaching in central Pennsylvania. I teach in a quiet town along the Susquehanna River. I always hoped to have a classroom with a window. Well, I have an entire wall of third floor windows facing south. From my room I can see miles of mountain and river. It is a beautiful place to teach. So now that I have a classroom with windows, I am ready to write.

I do not know what to do with a blog. So I googled, "how to write a blog". I came across a corporate blogger who recommended different types of software and the need to stick to a topic. I grew bored of blog research and clicked on the next link to blogspot. Then, I folowed the path to starting a blog and I have arrived here. My wife is cleaning as darkness is falling and Bruce Springsteen's "Magic" is playing on the house stereo. She asks what I am going to write about and I do not know.

I like music, nature, traveling, socializing, reading, movies and lots of other things. Most off all I appreciate life. I think I am going to write about appreciating the good life and this place should grow from here.
